JOB TITLE:              Senior Auditor

 

REPORTS TO:         Manager Internal Audit

 

JOB OVERVIEW

 

The Senior Auditor is responsible for the execution of the annual audit plan and the day to day internal audits. The incumbent contributes to the Internal Audit (IA) function, by identifying risks associated with business objectives; evaluates the controls in place to mitigate these risks and to improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. The Senior Auditor provides advice to management in the creation or modification of policies, procedures, processes, products and services to ensure that an appropriate level of control and compliance is maintained

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Audit Work Plan and Internal Audit Methodology;
  • Conduct preliminary and interim audit meetings with stakeholders to explain the scope and objectives of the audit engagement and provide an overview of all steps in the audit process; 
  • Develop a risk-based plan by selecting an appropriate audit approach and test procedures and sampling criteria;
  • Perform audit tests and prepare work papers in accordance with professional International Internal Auditing (IIA) standards;
  • Evaluate the adequacy of process design and the effectiveness of controls in meeting business and control objectives; identifies and document controls and process weaknesses and provide evidential support for findings;
  • Conduct closing meetings with Heads of Departments at the end of field work, providing clear explanations for the identified issues;
  • Prepare concise and informative audit reports to effectively communicate the findings and recommendations to the Department;
  • Participate in projects designed to introduce new and/or changing processes, products or services and provide recommendations to mitigate project and end state risks;
  • Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations;
  • Assist in the preparation of Reports for Audit Committee’s Meeting;
  • Assist with the conduct of tests to assist the external auditors with the annual financial report audit;
  • Assist in the achievement of the Departmental Targets.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong interpersonal skills; Critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills; 
  • Knowledge of auditing principles and internal accounting standards;
  • Knowledge of accounting/auditing software;
  • Comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of Auditing, Risk Management, Governance and Controls;
  • Proven ability in applying risk and control concepts to evaluate the effectiveness of business processes and controls to mitigate risk;
  • Knowledge of all laws, regulations, national and international standards and business principles governing the Company’s operations;
  • Knowledge of the governance requirements of State Enterprises and Government Agencies;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Audit extraction and evaluate software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Professional Accountants Canada (CPA Canada) or equivalent qualification or a Master’s Degree in fields related to Accounting or Finance;
  • Professional Audit Certification (such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) will be considered an asset;
  • Three (3) years’ experience in auditing.
